I admit it, I am a polictical junkie. Election time? Yes please, a year a ahead is not long enough. I want to know my canidate well enough that when I hear a random attack ad, it won't suprise me.
I want to be able to support the guy in the Oval office not just because he is President but because I know him. (reguardless of if I voted for him or not) SO all that being said, I still don't know who I am voting for. Really, its a frustrating process and to me, when I decide to support a particular person, I am in turn saying something about who I am as a person. SEE the problem?? It's scary! Have you checked out the politictions latley? So with all these thoughts floating around my head I thought Mitt Romney could use a little advice, even though he won't ever read it (trust me, I actually sent his web site an e-mail, with NO response...yep, I warned you about me already) here it is:
Dear Mr. Romney
Let me start by saying I have not decided who to vote for, in general I like the idea of a CEO as president, as do many of my friends and family members, but there are a few things you need to understand and help the American people know you if you are ever going to erase the uneasy feeling that seems to come with a potential voter committing to you:
1- Who are you? I have listened and listened to every interview I find, every debate and I feel like I get the same superficial message every time. I mean really did you think that Ohio speech won you any more support? NO, it was the same stump speech I had hear earlier. Where is the emotion? The man behind the speech? I don't feel like I can commit to a speech, I need to real person. Let us know YOU, maybe a you tube video would be helpful, perhaps talking about why you actually ran, the moment you felt you should- the REAL moment? Heck, memories of your childhood or moments you had with your children would add a little something, anything. We need reassurance that there is more then a well polished CEO, some one we can stand by.
2- Religion matters, sorry Mitt. People are scared to say it, much like any one refuses to address issues regarding Muslims, Gay rights or The color of our skin in any thing but a politically correct way. I happen to be Mormon too, and what I hate is that fact that I am struggling to support you, BECAUSE your Mormon. I don't want you to embarrass us. I don't want to deal with the comments that people underhandedly say on T.V. "Anti-Mitt" whats up with that?? My only hope is that through all this, people will learn we are Christians, and pretty darn good people at that. So please be careful Mitt, you represent a people who didn't ask you to, and they are worried about how you will handle this, just make us proud!
3- The Bain problem and the "I like to fire" comment, Hmm. I will admit I need to do a bit more home work on Bain. But let me tell you, one of the big problems with this country is that we are scared to take risks. Scared that we might make a mistake, scared that in the future some one will see the mistake. Our politician are So scared of it that they won't "fire" any one, for any reason. (unless the media says to) So you have a whole bunch a people who are going to "fix the government" who can't because they are scared. GO YOU! Fire away Mitt, reduce the government, turn power back to the states and pritave sector. Stream line it enough to pull us out of Debt. The very things you are being criticized for are the things that COULD make you a better leader if given the chance, you just have to explain it correctly. One commentator on Fox Five said " make lemons into lemon aide" his advice was great.
4- Which actually brings me to my next point you Massachusetts moderate. So what. You don't need to be a most Republican of the Republicans up there. Both parties have failed us. Our countries problems started long ago and aren't going away anytime soon even with a change of Presidents. I think our country is more in the middle then any one news organization would want to admit. Stand for the values of America, get us out of this Crisis and I don't think it matters what party you are from. In fact a moderate is probably a lot better then any one candidate on the far left OR right.
Finally, this sounds petty, but please put an Questions and answers spot on your web site. Anything from what happened with Bain to how you like your hamburgers- do you even like hamburgers? In fact I would let people send in the question they want answered and post them.
I Want to support you Mitt, But I am still just not sure If that's whats right for me. Take my advice, I think there are a whole lot of us out there who are waiting for you to.
Your Frustrated average American Gal,
Brigette
